What type are they?

Order Hymenoptera is the family that ants belong to. There are around 12,000 worldwide but only about 50 species in the UK.  If you like you can send us a photo and we’ll help you figure it out. How did they get in?

A number of ways. They may just have flown in through an open door or window and been hibernating for a while. They normally hibernate in the garden or can be under the building and then start building nests in the Spring .

Will they just go away?

Again, it depends on the species. The black and red ants will go away eventually. The subtropical species probably will not go away unless their food sources run out.  Lets identify them and then we can give you treatment options.

Some of our customers are happy to have a yearly ant treatment, which keeps their property pest free all year around. Others only do it when they feel inundated.
